Foot traffic was steady at the Douglas County Courthouse Saturday as voters hoping to beat Tuesday’s rush cast in-person advance ballots.

“I expect we’ll have one of our biggest days ever today,” Keith Campbell, the county’s elections deputy, said about 11:30 a.m.

Campbell said one report indicated that the polls were averaging four voters per minute countywide.

He said he’d anticipated the Kansas University-Kansas State football game at Memorial Stadium would reduce the turnout, but as the game began, he was beginning to change his mind.

“I’ll be honest, we’re as busy now as we’ve been all day, except for when we first opened up,” Campbell said. “It’s been steady. We really haven’t had a break.”

In-person advance voting at the office, 1100 Mass., runs until 3 p.m. Saturday. Locations also are open at the Baldwin City Library, Eudora City Clerk’s Office, and Lecompton City Clerk’s Office until 3 p.m. Saturday. Voters can show up, fill out an application and vote.

Advance voting will continue from 8 a.m. to noon Monday at the Douglas County Courthouse.
