Lincoln, Neb. ? Kansas University seniors Kate Sultanova and Crystal Manning each clinched a spot in the NCAA Championships with top-five finishes, while seven more Kansas track and field athletes qualified for the finals of their events Friday at the Midwest Regional Championships.

Manning earned a spot at the NCAA Championships with a fourth-place long jump of 6.26 meters. The top five finishers in each individual event automatically qualified.

In the final event of the day, Sultanova qualified for the NCAA Championships with a third-place finish in the women’s pole vault. The Krasnodar, Russia, native finished at a height of 4.16 meters (13-7.75 feet).

Also reaching the finals were: senior Julius Jiles in the 110-meter hurdles; senior Ashley Brown in the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles; junior Sha’Ray Butler in the 400-meter hurdles; junior Nickesha Anderson in the 100 and 200 meters; senior Maresia Pencil in the 800 meters; and junior Zlata Tarasova in the women’s hammer throw.

Today’s final day of competition starts at 1 p.m., with two-time defending champion senior Egor Agafonov in the men’s hammer throw.
