Law enforcement report

¢ Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical responded to a house fire at 5:46 p.m. at 315 Kan. According to Division Chief Joe Hoelscher, emergency responders extinguished a small attic fire in the one-story residence. No injuries were reported. He estimated the damage at about $8,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

¢ Lawrence police responded to a fight at 7:38 p.m. Sunday in the alley behind the 900 block of Ohio Street. Police located the victim, who stated he had been struck several times by a man known to him. According to police, the victim was treated at the scene by Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical and transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Police located the suspect in the 900 block of Tennessee Street. According to police, the victim declined to press charges. Further information was unavailable.

¢ Tito M. Mwela, 25, Lawrence, was charged last week in Douglas County District Court with two counts of aggravated endangering a child and one count of endangering a child. He also is charged with two counts of domestic battery and one count of intimidation of a witness. As of Wednesday he was still being held in the Douglas County Jail on $5,000 bond. He is to be in court at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Mwela was arrested by Lawrence police on May 18 at a residence in the 2400 block of West 24th Terrace. A police report said Mwela allegedly kept a 28-year-old woman from using a cell phone to call for help.

Burglaries and thefts reported

¢ A 44-year-old Lawrence woman reported two Social Security checks were stolen from the 2200 block of Yale Road. Estimated loss is $5,911. The incident occurred between May 13 and Tuesday.
