Guides needed for Smithsonian exhibit

Watkins Community Museum of History is looking for docents to give guided tours of the upcoming Smithsonian traveling exhibit, “New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music,” from June 27 to August 10.

¢ Douglas County Visiting Nurses Rehabilitation and Hospice Care seeks volunteers with hairdressing experience to cut hospice patients’ hair. Contact Steve Satterfield at 843-3738.

¢ The Muscular Dystrophy Association’s annual summer camp program is searching for males ages 17 and older to be camp volunteers June 7-14. The camp is at the Tall Oaks Conference Center in Linwood, and applicants must be able to pass a criminal background check and be physically able to lift and care for a child with a neuromuscular disease.

Volunteer responsibilities include making sure that the camper has a great week while providing physical assistance with dressing, bathing and activities, including swimming, fishing, horseback riding, archery, zip line, arts and crafts, and dances.

¢ The Lawrence Public Library needs volunteers ages 16 and older to help with Youth Chautauqua Camp June 18-22. Volunteers will assist campers with choosing, researching and creating a first-person presentation of a historical character.
