Franklin County accident kills woman

A Pomona woman died from injuries she suffered Sunday morning in a one-vehicle accident in northwestern Franklin County.

According to a statement from Sheriff Craig A. Davis, the accident occurred on Thomas Road about 9 miles west of U.S. Highway 59. A 2002 Chevrolet van, driven by Forrest Cook, of Pomona, traveled into south ditch and eventually crashed into a creek embankment. Officers were called around 9:30 a.m.

Cook and his wife, Lucinda, were trapped in the van, and it took 35 minutes for emergency workers to free them. The coroner pronounced Lucinda Cook dead at the scene.

Forrest Cook was flown via a LifeStar air ambulance to a Topeka area hospital with unknown injuries, Davis said.

The sheriff’s office is still investigating the accident.
