Lawrence City Band season starts this week

The popular Lawrence City Band concert season kicks off Wednesday.

Concerts are at 8 p.m. Wednesdays at the bandstand in South Park through July 16. This week’s concert featured works include “The Marriage of Figaro” by Mozart, “Toccata for Band” by Frank Erickson, “Royal Air Force March Past” by Walford Davies and “Hoagy Carmichael in Concert,” arranged by Warren Barker.

Here’s a rundown of titles for the rest of the summer’s concerts:

¢ June 4 – “Classics for a Summer Night.”

¢ June 11 – “Lawrence City Band Showcase.”

¢ June 18 – “A Chautauqua Concert: Lawrence in the 1930s,” featuring guest conduct retired Col. Arnald Gabriel and trombone soloist Michael Davidson.

¢ June 25 – “Children’s Concert.”

¢ July 2 – “A Star-Spangled Spectacular.”

¢ July 9 – “From Kansas City to New York to Vienna and Russia.”

¢ July 16 – “Season’s Finale.”
