Only three people remained without power in Douglas County as of 9:09 a.m. Saturday morning, after a strong line of storms with fierce winds and rain moved through the community over night.

All severe watches and warnings had lapsed by 9 a.m., though the forecast called for the possibility of more storms throughout the weekend.

The line of storms that eventually moved through Douglas County spawned several tornadoes earlier in the evening, including one in Greensburg that caused minor damage, according to the Associated Press.

The National Weather Service in Topeka issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Douglas County early Saturday morning.

At 3:46 a.m., the National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. These storms were located along a line extending from 11 miles north of Topeka to 12 miles southwest of Globe – or 19 miles west of Ottawa – moving northeast at 40 mph.

As of 6:40 a.m., less than 800 Westar Energy customers in Douglas County were without power.
