Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World of May 23, 1908: “W.R. Stubbs, candidate for governor, has received a number of plaudits from many corners. Raised in the quiet village of Hesper, he worked hard to put himself through the University of Kansas and then established himself as a leader and businessman as a contractor of note. : The city had a great regatta on the river here over the weekend and thousands gathered to watch the swimming races, boating events, canoe contests and fancy diving. Water was choppy but manageable.”
