Caps will be flying through the air the next few days in Lawrence.
Classes have wrapped up.
Finals are done.
Now it's time to celebrate the achievements of hundreds of high school seniors from Lawrence.
"It will be a wonderful occasion for students, parents, grandparents and all other family members," said Rick Gammill, special operations director for the Lawrence school district.
The public high school ceremonies will be Sunday - 1 p.m. for Free State and 4 p.m. for Lawrence High at Allen Fieldhouse. Free State graduates will go through rehearsal at 9 a.m. today, and the LHS senior class will get its turn at 10:30 a.m. in the fieldhouse.
Area Lawrence Virtual School graduates will also be honored at the public school ceremonies Sunday.
As for the real thing, Bishop Seabury Academy's graduation will be 9 a.m. today at the academy, 4120 Clinton Parkway. Fourteen seniors will be honored.
Nine seniors will graduate from Veritas Christian School during a 2 p.m. ceremony Saturday at Lawrence Bible Chapel, 505 Monterey Way.
Based on last year's public high school graduations in the fieldhouse, Lawrence school administrators say they don't expect any major heat problems on Sunday.
But weather forecasters are predicting temperatures in the 80s. Family and friends may want to think about bringing bottled water and something to fan themselves.
Graduates from all Lawrence high schools have a chance to celebrate safely together and win prizes, including a 1994 Honda del Sol, donated by Jack Ellena Honda, at Project Graduation from 10 p.m. Sunday to 3 a.m. Monday at Abe & Jake's Landing, 8 E. Sixth St.
