Tech luncheon to talk education

Two organizers of a new technical training program in Douglas County are scheduled to discuss the program during a Lawrence Technology Association luncheon this month.

The luncheon is set for 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 28 at Jade Mongolian BBQ, 1511 W. 23rd St.

Stacy Walters, a business consultant for Heartland Works Inc., and Beth Johnson, vice president for economic development at the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, will discuss the Douglas County Manufacturing Certificate Program.

The program – organized by Heartland Works, the chamber, Johnson County Community College, the Lawrence and Eudora school districts, Sauer-Danfoss and Berry Plastics – aims to provide participants with in-class technical training and on-the-job employment with manufacturing and technical companies.

Heartland Works is financing the education, through classes offered by the community college, using a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.

Cost for the luncheon is $12 for association members, and $14 for others.
