Free State softball bounced from sub-state

? The Free State High softball team saw its season come to an end Monday at Olathe Northwest. The Firebirds lost, 6-0, to the Ravens in the second round of sub-state after defeating Topeka High, 9-2, earlier Monday.

Olathe Northwest pitcher Hanah Dale earned the victory and only allowed two hits to the Firebirds.

“She was just hitting her spots really well, and her change-up was giving us a hard time,” Free State coach Pam Pine said of Dale. “She’d get ahead in the count, and we were baffled.”

Catherine Smith took the loss for Free State, which finished the season at 10-12.
