Police seek suspect in liquor store robberies

Lawrence police are searching for a suspect who robbed Harper Corner Liquor, 2200 Harper St., about 10 p.m. Saturday.

According to Sgt. David Hubbel of the Lawrence Police Department, a man between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall with a thin build wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt and dark pants, dark gloves and a dark bandanna across his face, displayed a handgun and demanded money.

The suspect fled northbound on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

Hubbel said the physical description of the suspect “matches the description on a lot of” other liquor store robberies, including a Dec. 31, 2007, Hird Retail Liquor theft and an April 9 Glass House Liquor theft.

A second armed robbery occurred about 11 p.m. Saturday at KC’s Liquor, 1805 W. Second St. The description of the suspect in that robbery was similar to the previous incident.

Police ask anyone with information on Saturday’s robberies to contact detectives at 830-7430 or 843-TIPS.
