Haskell royalty named for next year

Tila Salas-Brooks, a freshman from Portland, Ore., was named Miss Haskell during the Spring Commencement Powwow on Friday night.

Orlando Begay, a junior from Monument Valley, Utah, became the next Haskell Brave.

Miss Haskell and Haskell Brave represent the university by attending conferences, powwows and other events across the country. They will be asked to lead prayers and give speeches.

To become the next Haskell royalty, they had to be in good social and academic standing. They also participated in a weeklong competition and were judged in five categories: an essay question, modern and traditional talent, public speaking, private interview and popular vote by students, faculty and alumni.
