Passing over all three candidates in the past spring election, the Lawrence City Commission decided to invite Howard Hill, Walter Hull and Jeff Southard for further interviews in their selection of a fifth commissioner. There was a 2-year vacancy because of the resignation of 10-year veteran Barkley Clark. He was moving to the Kansas City area to join a legal firm.
