Twenty-nine Kansas University graduate programs are ranked in the top 30 nationally and seven of those made major leaps this year to join the top 30 or climb even higher, according to rankings to be released by U.S. News and World Report this morning.

The special education master’s and doctorate program climbed in the rankings and now joins the city management and urban policy master’s program with a No. 1 ranking among American graduate schools.

Also doing well in the new rankings is the occupational therapy program, which climbed to second in the national rankings, and the primary care program, which climbed 11 spots to break into the top 30.

“The people of Kansas can be proud of the dedication and quality of the students, faculty and staff at the KU Medical Center,” KU Medical Center Executive Vice Chancellor Barbara Atkinson said in a statement to the Journal-World. “At a time when our state and nation face a primary care crisis, KU is committed to training a strong health care work force.”

In addition to programs in medicine and public administration, which have been highly ranked, KU’s speech-language pathology program climbed to fourth and audiology climbed to seventh.

U.S. News is expected to release additional rankings.
