Fire ravaged a rural Lecompton home but caused no injuries Monday afternoon.

Crews responded about 4:50 p.m. to the residence at 1956 E. 100 Road after a man, who was in the house when the fire started, escaped before it became fully involved and called emergency responders from a cell phone, Lecompton Fire & Rescue Assistant Chief Will Shockley said.

Shockley said the smoke was visible for miles and the one-story dwelling was fully on fire when he arrived on the scene.

He said he did not know where in the house the fire started and that the cause had not been determined Monday afternoon.

“The house does look like it’s pretty well done,” he said.

Crews responded from across the county, several bringing water to assist in putting out the fire.

Crews were called to the scene again about 10 p.m. Monday to help extinguish hot spots, according to dispatch.
