From the Lawrence Daily World for March 23, 1908: “Jury selection is under way for the second trial of Ephraim Vancil, charged with the murder of his wife, Villa, by poisoning. The original trial resulted in no decision so a second trial was set up since evidence seemed strong enough to do so. : This is the last week for the outstanding art exhibit at the university and there will be talks about the art work each evening. Everyone can possibly do so should attend the exhibition, perhaps the best in local history. : Dr. Lyman Abbott drew more than 2,500 to Robinson Gymnasium last night for his talk on “God’s requirements for His people.”: A Lawrence man who paid $962.30 for his automobile and has had trouble with it ever since has been trying to figure out his costs. His conclusion is that he paid $962 more than it is worth.”
