Douglas County phone system back in operation

The phone lines to Douglas County government and court offices are working again today, County Administrator Craig Weinaug said.

The phone system failed about 5 p.m. Tuesday. Repairs were made by midnight, Weinaug said.

“Three of the five power sources that support the phone system went down,” Weinaug said. “I don’t know why or what we are going to do to prevent it from happening again. We will find the answer.”

The phone system is being examined to find the cause, he said.

The county’s 911 emergency phone system was not affected by the failure, Weinaug said. If the 911 system should have a problem, there are several redundancies that should keep it operating. If necessary, 911 calls will automatically switch to the Kansas University Public Safety Department, Weinaug said.
