2 bridges to close until at least May 1

Two bridges will be closed Monday morning for repairs, including one west of Stull on Douglas County Route 442, Douglas County Public Works Department announced.

The second bridge is on North 1100 Road, three-tenths of a mile east of U.S. Highway 59 south of Lawrence. At both locations the bridges will be redecked and road approaches will be resurfaced. Both bridges will be reopened May 1, weather permitting.

A marked detour around the Route 442 bridge will be in place. The detour follows Douglas County Route 1023 north to U.S. Highway 40, west to Douglas County Route 1029 and then back south.

Other alternative routes from Lawrence to Topeka include Interstate 70 and Highway 40.

No detour will be marked for the North 1100 bridge.
