LHS girls upset Blue Valley 59-48, advance to 6A semifinals

EMPORIA – Haley Parker and Danielle Bird scored 17 points apiece as the seventh-seeded Lawrence High girls’ basketball team upset second-seeded Blue Valley 59-48 Wednesday in the Class 6A state quarterfinals in Emporia.

LHS (19-4) trailed 38-35 heading into the fourth quarter, but outscored the Tigers (21-2) 24-10 in the final eight minutes. The Lions now get the winner of the day’s second quarterfinal between No. 3 Olathe South (20-2) and No. 6 Dodge City (18-4). The semifinal will be played in White Auditorium Friday at 3 p.m.

Lawrence hasn’t faced Dodge City this season, but defeated Olathe South in the regular season meeting between the two.
