Jayhawks split pair of 2-0 decisions

? After dropping a 2-0 decision to No. 5/6 Northwestern earlier in the day, Kansas University’s softball team bounced back with a 2-0 victory against Southern Illinois as pitcher Valerie George notched her second shutout of the season.

George, 6-1, recorded a season-high nine strikeouts, one shy of her career best, as the junior moved into 10th on KU’s all-time strikeout list with 188 for her career.

In the earlier game, Northwestern pitcher Lauren Delaney gave the Jayhawks little to work with as she limited KU to just one hit, a single by designated hitter Elle Pottorf, through seven innings

Kansas had its best opportunity to score in the bottom of the third. With just one out, Delaney walked two consecutive Kansas batters, but a fly out and a ground out ended the threat.

The Jayhawks reached base just one more time, another base on balls in the fourth.

Kansas will play two more games this morning as part of the Coach B Southern Classic. KU will take on Western Illinois at 9 a.m. and Bradley at 11 a.m.
