Phoenix – With the bases loaded in the fourth inning, David DeJesus was looking for a fastball.

Michah Owings delivered one and DeJesus hit it into Chase Field’s pool area for his first career grand slam. DeJesus had a career-high five RBIs for Kansas City.

“He threw a changeup down for the first pitch, and then I was just ready if I saw a fastball,” said DeJesus, who hit his second homer in as many days.

Indians 7, Padres 3

Cleveland – C.C. Sabathia outpitched Greg Maddux in a matchup of Cy Young winners.

Ben Francisco hit a three-run homer and Grady Sizemore a solo shot, his ninth homer in 16 games.

Cubs 7, Blue Jays 3

Toronto – Ted Lilly tossed six scoreless innings for Chicago.

Red Sox 9, Reds 0

Cincinnati – Coco Crisp kept Boston’s depleted lineup rolling by driving in four runs, and Jacoby Ellsbury homered and stole two more bases for a Red Sox rookie record of 33.

Rangers 8-2, Mets 7-4

New York – Pedro Martinez pitched six sharp innings, pinch-hitter Robinson Cancel got his first major league hit in nearly nine years and New York and Texas split a doubleheader.

Billy Wagner ended his skid of three straight blown saves. Carlos Beltran followed up a homer and two RBIs in the opener with a run-scoring single as New York took two of three from Texas, perhaps giving manager Willie Randolph a reprieve from being fired.

Pirates 5, Orioles 4 (10)

Baltimore – Adam LaRoche singled in the tiebreaking run off George Sherrill in the 10th inning, and Pittsburgh beat Baltimore to end a run of seven straight interleague defeats.

The Orioles lost their 10th straight Sunday game. After winning its first Sunday game of the season, Baltimore has since been outscored, 55-26, on that day.

Marlins 9, Rays 3

St. Petersburg, Fla. – Ricky Nolasco came within one out of the first complete game of his career, and Mike Jacobs and Wes Helms hit three-run homers for Florida.

Tigers 5, Dodgers 4

Detroit – Nate Robertson pitched six shutout innings, Marcus Thames and Brandon Inge hit back-to-back homers and Detroit earned its sixth straight victory.

Rockies 5, White Sox 3

Chicago – Brad Hawpe hit a go-ahead home run, and Aaron Cook earned his career-high 10th win for Colorado.

The White Sox loaded the bases against Brian Fuentes in the ninth, but couldn’t capitalize. Joe Crede hit a pop fly that Matt Holliday nearly dropped as he avoided colliding with center fielder Willy Taveras.

Brewers 4, Twins 2

Milwaukee – Mike Cameron hit a two-run homer, and Milwaukee snapped a six-game losing streak in interleague play dating to last season.

Yankees 13, Astros 0

Houston – Chien-Ming Wang pitched five scoreless innings before hurting his right foot running the bases.

Wang (8-2) pulled up as he rounded third on Derek Jeter’s two-run single during the Yankees’ eight-run sixth. A trainer rushed from the dugout to check on him, and Wang was helped off the field.

Athletics 5, Giants 3

Oakland, Calif. – Eric Chavez had three hits and two RBIs to help Oakland complete its second consecutive sweep of San Francisco.

Nationals 6, Mariners 2

Seattle – Rookie Kory Casto’s pinch-hit, three-run homer off the foul pole broke an eighth-inning tie and led Washington to victory.

Angels 2, Braves 0

Anaheim, Calif. – Casey Kotchman homered, Joe Saunders pitched seven scoreless innings and Los Angeles avoided a sweep.

Saunders held the Braves to just six hits, and Kotchman drove in both runs with his home run for Los Angeles.

National League

Cardinals 7, Phillies 6 (10)

St. Louis – The Cardinals’ victory was marred by a potentially serious injury to Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina in the ninth. Molina was removed on a stretcher and wearing a neck brace after getting run over on a tag play in the top of the inning. Molina was taken to a hospital for evaluation of neck and back pain.
