Relay for Life begins at 7 p.m. today

The Douglas County Relay for Life begins at 7 p.m. today at the Free State High School track, 4700 Overland Drive.

Relay for Life helps raise funds for the American Cancer Society’s local patient services and to acknowledge those who have died from and survived cancer. More than 60 teams will participate in the Lawrence event.

The public is invited to participate and can make donations.

The opening ceremony and first survivor’s lap begins at 7 p.m.

The relay will continue until 5:15 a.m. Saturday. A breakfast will be served at 5:30 a.m.

Coordinators remind people to bring tents and camping supplies as well as gear for cooler and warmer weather. Pets are not allowed, and smoking is discouraged.
