Three Raiders playing in All-Star game

The Lawrence Raiders will be without three of their more high-profile players tonight when they play in Coffeyville.

That’s because Matthew Abel (Eudora High), Joe Kornbrust (Lawrence High) and Caleb Gress (Free State High) will participate in the Kansas Baseball Coaches Association All-Star game in Manhattan.

Gress and Kornbrust both earned spots on the roster as pitchers. Abel will patrol the outfield. They will be joined by fellow-Firebirds Jordan Dreiling and John Wilson, both infielders.

The event, which will be played at the Kansas State University Baseball Complex, will play host to two games, one at 1 p.m. and another at 4 p.m. The five Lawrence-area players will play in the 4 p.m. contest.
