Brooke Sutherland, Lawrence, received the Johnson Scholarship, a merit-based award, to attend Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Va. in the fall. The award is worth between $46,812 and $50,240.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Todd Sutherland and a 2008 graduate of Bishop Seabury Academy.

¢Madison Phillips was named to the dean’s list for the 2008 spring semester at Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, Mo.

¢Alex Roberts received a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry on May 10. He was a participant in the Senior Departmental Advanced Studies in Oral Surgery honors program.

Roberts is a 1999 graduate of Free State High School and the son of Don and Claire Roberts, Lawrence. He plans on beginning dental practice at Westwood Dental, Kansas City, Kan.

¢Robyn Keiter, Denver, graduated with honors from the University of Colorado-Denver with a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a marketing emphasis on May 17.

Kieter is a 1995 Eudora High School graduate and the daughter of Diane and Kenny Massey, Eudora.

¢Robeson Graham-Bailey, Lawrence, received a Bachelor of Science on May 10 from Xavier University in New Orleans. Tavis Smiley, broadcaster, author, advocate and philanthropist, delivered the keynote address at the ceremony at Kiefer Lakefront Arena.

¢Nathanael Fowler, Lawrence, was named to the president’s list for the spring 2008 semester at Cloud County Community College, Concordia.

To be named to the president’s list, students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.6. or higher.

¢Lawrence Memorial Hospital Auxiliary’s annual meeting and volunteer recognition was April 29. Gene Meyer, LMH president and CEO, was the keynote speaker for the event. The auxiliary selected officers for the coming year. They are: Joanne Hurst, president; Lew Nolan, vice president; Dianna Nelson, secretary; and Sharon Stultz, treasurer.

Several volunteers were recognized for outstanding service or awards:

Marguerite Lockwood Award: Mary Lou Holcomb, volunteer of the year for service in the surgery waiting room.

Ryan Kanost Award: Todd Crawford, outstanding student volunteer for his volunteer service in the Same Day Surgery Department and with special events at the hospital.

Years of service awards: Jackie Shmalberg, 40 years; Gaye Groene, 35 years; Bea Carlson, 30 years; and Martha Jane Kukuk, 25 years.

During 2007, more than 766 volunteers contributed their time and talents at LMH. Total hours contributed in 2007 were 51,243, the equivalent of 25 full-time employees. The auxiliary also gave the hospital $50,000 as part of a pledge of $300,000 to the new emergency department.
