County clerk to seek a second term

Douglas County Clerk Jamie Shew announced Thursday that he is seeking re-election for a second term.

Shew, a Democrat, said he would file the paperwork today. He noted that four years ago he asked voters to elect him on a platform of increased efficiency, responsiveness and accessibility. He said he thinks he has met those goals.

“In three short years, our office has made tremendous progress in our effort to better serve the citizens of our county,” Shew said.

Among the successes Shew touted were renovating the elections process to be more secure and efficient, pursuing systems that result in cost savings and saving resources. He also noted an increased Web site presence with sample ballots online and advocating in the Kansas Legislature for satellite advance voting.

“My objective is to be a responsible steward of this office,” he said.

Also of importance, Shew said, were initiatives involving implementation of a document management program and cost-saving paperless processes.
