Amarr making new door in Lawrence

Amarr Garage Doors is making a new, triple-layer door in Lawrence using $500,000 in new equipment at the company’s plant in the East Hills Business Park.

The plant, with 595 employees, recently began production of the Oak Summit 3000, an upgraded version of a model designed to appear like a door for a carriage house.

Vickie Lents, Amarr’s residential category director, compared the new model to one for a new car.

“This is an upgraded version,” she said. “This is the leather seats. This is the sunroof. This is the surround sound system.”

The new equipment isn’t directly adding jobs to the Lawrence plant, but the operation is hiring, said Kirsten Krug, director of people. Amarr is seeking 15 to 20 employees to handle additional production.
