State Rep. Sloan files for re-election

State Rep. Tom Sloan, R-Lawrence, filed Wednesday as a candidate for re-election to represent the 45th District in the Kansas House of Representatives.

Sloan, a self-employed strategic planning facilitator, recently finished his seventh two-year term representing the district, which covers much of western Lawrence and northwestern Douglas County.

In announcing his re-election bid, Sloan said he wanted to continue his work on complex issues such as those involving renewable energy, sustainable water resources, public safety and health-care delivery.

“I believe that developing responsible, progressive public policies is critically important to the progress of our region and the state,” he said.

Sloan, 62, serves as vice chairman of the Government Efficiency and Technology Committee and is a member of both the Energy and Utilities and the Transportation committees.

Sloan and his wife, Gail, live on U.S. Highway 40 northwest of Lawrence and have three adult children and two grandchildren.

The filing deadline for candidates is noon Monday. The general election will be Nov. 4.
