New York – Mike Mussina tied for the American League lead in wins, while Derek Jeter passed Mickey Mantle on the Yankees career hits list.

Mussina is now 8-1 in his last nine starts.

Jeter’s single gave him 2,416 hits, good for third place on the franchise list behind Babe Ruth (2,518) and Lou Gehrig (2,721).

Athletics 10, Tigers 2

Oakland, Calif. – Justin Duchscherer allowed three hits over 62â3 innings and Oakland completed a three-game sweep of Detroit.

Angels 5, Mariners 4

Seattle – Torii Hunter hit a two-run single in a big first inning before Jered Weaver and three Angels relievers took care of the sunken Mariners.

Carlos Silva (3-6), whom Seattle signed to a $48 million contract before the season, fell behind early following Howie Kendrick’s RBI double and Hunter’s two-run single.

Red Sox 5, Rays 1

Boston – Josh Beckett allowed a run in six strong innings, and the Boston Red Sox won their 12th straight home game to take the AL East lead from Tampa Bay.

The scariest moment for Beckett came when his left foot appeared to slip as it landed on a pitch to Cliff Floyd in the sixth inning. Beckett stayed in the game and struck out Floyd.

Beckett (6-4) left after throwing 92 pitches but was not injured, team spokesman John Blake said.

Twins 7, Orioles 5

Minneapolis – Joe Mauer homered and drove in three runs, helping Boof Bonser get a win out of the bullpen for Minnesota.

Mauer homered to the upper deck, above and just to the left of the foul pole, for only his second round tripper of the season.

Indians 15, Rangers 9

Arlington, Texas – Ryan Garko drove in a career-high six runs, and David Dellucci hit a three-run homer for Cleveland.
