State Rep. Tom Sloan files for re-election

June 4, 2008

State Rep. Tom Sloan, R-Lawrence, filed Wednesday as a candidate for re-election to represent the 45th District in the Kansas House of Representatives.

Sloan, a self-employed strategic planning facilitator, recently finished his seventh two-year term representing the district, which covers much of western Lawrence and northwestern Douglas County.

In announcing his re-election bid, Sloan said that he wanted to continue his work on complex issues - such those involving renewable energy, sustainable water resources, public safety and health-care delivery - "because I believe that developing responsible, progressive public policies is critically important to the progress of our region and the state."

Sloan, 62, serves as vice chairman of the Government Efficiency and Technology Committee and is a member of both the Energy and Utilities, and Transportation committees.

Sloan and his wife, Gail, live on U.S. Highway 40 northwest of Lawrence and have three adult children and two grandchildren.

This guy is a despicable booster of coal-fired power plants and an enemy of Mother Earth. He should be removed by the voters of Lawrence, Kan.

"Sloan said that he wanted to continue his work on complex issues - such those involving renewable energy, "That rings pretty hollow given what a shill for all things coal he's turned out to be.

Not only did he support the coal plants, he was also a supporter conceal and carry. I too have supported him in the past, but will not longer vote for him. Problem is I think the last time he had no opponent. I may be wrong on that.

Tom will win again, hands down! He's one of few politicians who really cares about what's best for the whole.Go, Tom!

I hope Tom wins. We need people in the legislature with the common sense to oppose Sebelius' poor, partisan decisions, such as opposing coal plants.
