Sheriff to seek re-election

Douglas County Sheriff Ken McGovern is seeking a second term in office.

McGovern made that announcement Tuesday and said he intended to file the paperwork today. He is a Republican.

McGovern, 49, is a 27-year law enforcement veteran. He said his first term as sheriff gave him an insight into the community’s needs. His office has worked to improve services by adopting new technology and establishing continuous in-house training programs, he said.

Communication with the public is of key importance, and he noted the development of a department Web site with information for the public about how his office conducts business. McGovern also plans to start a citizen’s academy.

“This is one of many projects that will continue to encourage productive communications, an efficiently run office and accessibility with the public,” McGovern said. “Keeping the community of Douglas County safe and fostering excellent associations will be my focus.”

No other candidates have filed for sheriff.
