Residential portion of development OK’d

A planned residential and commercial development along Sixth Street between Queens Road and Stoneridge Drive won partial approval.

Commissioners unanimously approved the residential portion of the request, which could allow for 300 to 350 apartment units just south of Overland Drive.

But commissioners deferred a request for about six acres of commercial development that would be just north of Sixth Street. Planning staff members had expressed concerns about whether the commercial development met the requirements of the city’s Northwest Development Plan. City commissioners agreed to delay the item, likely until August, to give planning commissioners a chance to hear a related commercial request for another portion of the property.
