Kansas City, Kan. ? Lightning from a line of strong thunderstorms struck a storage tank at a petroleum pipeline terminal Tuesday evening, setting off a spectacular fire that could be seen for miles around the Kansas City area.

Lightning from one of the cells was blamed for a massive fire at Magellan Pipeline’s Kansas City, Kan., terminal that sent flames and dark smoke billowing into the sky.

The tank contained 58,000 barrels of unleaded gasoline and fire crews were on the ground trying to prevent the blaze from reaching a nearby tank containing 15,000 barrels of gas, according to KCK Assistant Fire Chief Craig Duke.

No injuries were reported.
