Boston – Joba Chamberlain dominated Boston with his best major-league start, and New York moved two games behind its longtime rival.

Chamberlain allowed three singles and struck out nine in a career-high seven innings, Mariano Rivera shut down a threat in the eighth, and the Yankees improved to 7-0 since the All-Star game. They inched closer to the Red Sox in the AL East after Boston started the day a percentage point behind Tampa Bay.

Angels 6, Orioles 5

Baltimore – Juan Rivera and Casey Kotchman homered to help Joe Saunders earn his 13th victory, and Los Angeles defeated Baltimore. Back after missing two games on bereavement leave, Torii Hunter had two RBIs for the Angels, who led 5-0 after two innings.

Rangers 14, Athletics 6

Oakland, Calif. – Josh Hamilton hit a two-run homer to reach 100 RBIs for the season, and Texas overcame a five-run deficit to beat Oakland.

Blue Jays 5, Mariners (10)

Toronto – Joe Inglett’s two-run single with the bases loaded in the 10th inning sent Toronto past Seattle, the Mariners’ sixth consecutive loss. Seattle went ahead, 4-3, in the top of the 10th on Jeremy Reed’s RBI single.

White Sox 6, Tigers 5

Detroit – Jermaine Dye hit a two-out, two-run homer in the ninth inning to lift Chicago. The White Sox rallied to win in the ninth for the first time in 39 games this season after Carlos Guillen put Detroit ahead with a tiebreaking homer in the seventh inning.

D.J. Carrasco (1-0) picked up the win by getting two outs in the eighth, and Bobby Jenks pitched the ninth for his 20th save in 23 chances.

Indians 5, Twins 4

Cleveland – Cliff Lee stayed on pace to become Cleveland’s first 20-game winner in 34 years, and the Indians ended an eight-game losing streak inside the AL Central.
