Raiders take twinbill from K.C. Barnstormers

Jake Green said, sure, he could catch the second game, too.

Shaun Edmondson knew better, and the Raiders Legion baseball coach used Green as the designated hitter instead.

“He’s a tough kid,” Edmondson said of his regular backstop. “Jake said he could catch, but I can read his body language and his eyes.”

Green, who has been battling a back injury for about three weeks, doubled in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh as the Raiders nipped the K.C. Barnstormers, 6-5, on Wednesday night at Ice Field.

The Raiders also captured the nightcap with a two-out hit – a single to center by Hunter Scheib that produced a 12-11 victory.

“I’m not sure when I did it,” Green said of his bad back. “I think I did it lifting weights. When I sit around, it tightens up and it hurts.”

As the DH in the second game, Green was 1-for-2 with a walk for the Raiders (24-15).
