Wichita ? A former inmate ordered to testify at a hearing in the case of a Haysville nurse who is accused of running a “pill mill” with her husband said Monday she is not a jailhouse informant.

Stacey Hill called The Associated Press on Monday to say news reports linking her to the case against Dr. Stephen Schneider and his wife, Linda, have put her in danger. Hill said she wants nothing to do with the case.

“I don’t want in the midst of whatever is going on because I don’t care – it is that simple,” said Hill, a former inmate who was incarcerated for a time with Linda Schneider at the Butler County jail.

However, U.S. Magistrate Judge Donald Bostwick has ordered the U.S. Marshals Service to bring Hill to court so she can testify Thursday at an evidentiary hearing on whether Linda Schneider is a flight risk. The doctor was released in April pending his trial, but prosecutors are seeking his wife’s continued detention.

“I am having a hard time with my own … legal situation and everything else – I don’t need somebody else’s legal situation to carry around on my shoulders as well,” Hill said Monday.

Jim Cross, spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office, said in an e-mail Monday that Hill is not an informant, and that the government has never identified her as such.

Separately, prosecutors have said in court documents opposing Linda Schneider’s release that an inmate told investigators that Schneider talked about obtaining false identification if she were released. But they did not identify that person.

Defense attorney Eugene Gorokhov declined Monday to comment on the issue, saying the defense attorneys will present their findings at the upcoming court hearing. But in earlier court filings the defense contended evidence from the inmate cited by prosecutors should be given no weight because of her long criminal history.

Hill, who is now in the custody of Residential Services in Wichita, did not want to talk to the AP about what Schneider might have told her.
