Kimmel and Silverman end their romance

New York – Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman have broken up, their publicists said Monday.

“Jimmy and Sarah have no further comment,” Kimmel’s spokesman Lewis Kay told The Associated Press, confirming the split that was first reported on Vanity Fair magazine’s Web site.

Silverman’s publicist, Amy Zvi, confirmed the breakup in an e-mail message to the AP. Zvi didn’t immediately respond when asked for further details.

The pair dated for five years, and were one of Hollywood’s funniest – and seemingly solid – couples.

Earlier this year, they took the Internet by storm with a mega-popular video duel. Silverman debuted a clip of her and Matt Damon singing about their fake love affair on Kimmel’s ABC late-night show “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and Kimmel later responded with a star-studded video declaring a romance with Damon’s best friend, Ben Affleck.

Silverman, 37, has made frequent appearances on the 39-year-old Kimmel’s talk show. The comedian has starred in a feature-film length version of her one-woman show, “Sarah Silverman: Jesus Is Magic,” and fronted her own Comedy Central series, “The Sarah Silverman Program.”

Whoopi Goldberg to appear on Broadway

New York – Whoopi Goldberg is going back to Broadway.

Goldberg, a co-host on ABC’s “The View,” announced on the air Monday that she will appear in the Tony-nominated roller-skating musical “Xanadu” as one of the show’s evil sisters, Caliope.

Goldberg, 52, has previously been on Broadway with her own one-woman show as well as in revivals of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”

She begins her six-week “Xanadu” run July 29, taking over for actress Jackie Hoffman, who will return to the production on Sept. 9, said Karl Nilsson, spokesman for “The View.”

The show – an unexpected critical favorite – was loosely adapted from the cult 1980s film starring Olivia Newton-John. It also features Kerry Butler, Cheyenne Jackson and Tony Roberts.

Khloe Kardashian is ordered to jail

Los Angeles – Khloe Kardashian’s next dose of reality will involve the county jail.

The youngest daughter of famed defense attorney Robert Kardashian admitted violating her probation stemming from a 2007 drunken driving arrest during a July 3 court hearing, according to court records.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge ordered Kardashian, who’s featured on E! Entertainment Television’s “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” to surrender to authorities on Friday and serve up to 30 days in jail.

Kardashian will also have to enroll in an alcohol treatment program – one of the terms of probation she failed to complete – within three weeks of her release. She will also remain on probation.

“Khloe is ready and willing to serve out her sentence, no matter how long and where, and have this resolved,” her publicist, Jeff Raymond, told The Associated Press.

It’s unclear how long Kardashian, 23, will remain in jail. Other, more famous celebrities including Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie have served shortened sentences because of jail overcrowding.

Her drunken driving arrest was featured in an episode of the E! series.

Auction of Brown’s belongings approved

Columbia, S.C. – A South Carolina judge says an auction of James Brown’s belongings in New York can go forward as planned this week.

South Carolina Court of Appeals Judge Jasper Cureton on Monday lifted a temporary stay that could have held up the sale of the late soul singer’s belongings.

Christie’s auction house has planned the bidding for Thursday. Among the 320 items for sale are a red jumpsuit and blue satin cape.

The singer’s former business managers, Buddy Dallas and Alfred Bradley, had argued the auction should be stopped. They claimed the court should not have been able to appoint new trustees for Brown’s estate.

Brown died on Christmas Day in 2006 of heart failure. He was 73.

Beatles producer honored in Los Angeles

Los Angeles – Sir George Martin, the classically trained producer who helmed the Beatles recordings from their mop-top phase through their late musical masterworks, was honored last weekend in Los Angeles.

Martin, 82, received a career award from The Recording Academy’s Grammy Foundation, which provides education programs for future music professionals and works to preserve musical history.

Martin is the most successful record producer of all time, according to the academy, with more than 50 chart-topping hits and one-billion units sold. He also holds the record for the longest run of No. 1 pop-chart hits in history, spanning 36 years.

Event attendees included John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono, who recalled her first time meeting Martin.

“I was very surprised,” Ono said. “He was obviously from a classical background. And he had that sort of demeanor – of a person who was a very sophisticated gentleman, an English gentleman.”
