In four days, a new Wikipedia-like site devoted to Kansas University has ballooned from about 80 entries on issues relating mostly to Student Senate to more than 300 entries on all manners of KU topics.

WiKUpedia – the brain child of KU students Jarrod Morgenstern, Riley Dutton, Jack Connor and other members of the Connect Student Senate coalition – was established to inform students about Student Senate. But after unveiling the site Sunday, interest soared.

Now, the site will include information on all things KU. Already, it has articles on KU basketball camping, residence halls and the University Daily Kansan.

“This resource is only as good as the sum of its parts,” Morgenstern said. “None of us knows everything about KU, but we all know something.”

The site, which can be found by visiting www.connectku.com, had nearly 9,000 page views and 2,800 edits as of Wednesday afternoon.

Morgenstern, a senior from Overland Park, is the president of a new student group devoted strictly to WiKUpedia called the WiKUpedia Project. That’s so the project won’t die if the Connect coalition disbanded.

Dutton, a junior from Pittsburg, said project moderators are taking their work seriously.

While formal rules likely won’t be crafted until WiKUpedia Project members meet next week, Dutton said they want this resource to be based on attributable facts.

“It could evolve into a guide to the best deals on campus or into advice on the best way to get through KU,” Dutton said. “We want the truth about getting things done at and around KU, without need for political correctness or the official word the administration puts out. :

“We’re getting a small book right now. I hope by the end of the semester we have a true encyclopedia of KU.”
