Three people were injured early Sunday when the car they were traveling in went into a ditch 3 miles north of Baldwin City.

Shortly before the crash, Baldwin City police attempted to stop the car for a traffic violation but had discontinued the chase, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s office, which is conducting the investigation.

The crash occurred about 2:40 a.m. The car was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Douglas County Route 1055 and then attempted to turn onto County Route 460, the sheriff’s report states.

A passenger, Michael Evilsizor, 21, of Baldwin City, was flown by LifeStar helicopter to Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. He was treated and later released, a hospital spokesman said.

The driver, Patrick Trusler, 41, and Aaron Anderson, 19, both of Baldwin City, were transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and were treated and released, officials said.

Nobody was arrested, the sheriff’s office said.
