The game began as well as could be hoped for Seabury Academy’s boys basketball team Tuesday.

Seahawks Karel Hill and Skyler Malone hit back-to-back baskets to open the game, giving Seabury a quick four-point lead over Olathe Christian. But the good tidings disappeared in a cloud of Warrior dust as the visitors produced 16 unanswered points on their way to a 76-32 victory over the Seahawks at Seabury Academy.

Five first-quarter Seabury turnovers and the Warriors’ fierce press fueled the game-deciding run, giving the Seahawks much to think about.

“We’re going to have to cut down on the turnovers and work on our press-breaking,” said Seahawk freshman Reed Grabill, who led the team with 10 points. “They got a lot of fast points off that, and hopefully we’re going to come out here the next time and play better.”

The Seahawks will play host to Barstow at 7:30 tonight, with the girls tipping off at 6 p.m.

Olathe Christian girls 85, Seabury Academy 20

Junior Bria Phipps accounted for all the Seahawks’ scoring as visiting Olathe Christian busted out of the gates with 26 unanswered points on its way to a 32-point first quarter.

“That team was tough,” Seabury coach Nick Taylor said. “They’re quick, and they take care of the ball.”
