KU women eye aggressive road showing

The road has been a tricky place for the Kansas University women’s basketball team this season.

Tonight, at 5 p.m. against Xavier in Cincinnati, KU will get a chance to add to the chapter.

While the Jayhawks (10-2) have a pair of victories on the road, their only two losses of the season have come there as well.

“We’re going to have to come out of the gates a little more focused and with more energy,” KU head coach Bonnie Henrickson said. “We shot ourselves in the foot offensively in the California game (a 74-41 loss on Dec. 21) by not coming out aggressive.”

Henrickson said another key for the Jayhawks would be to repeat the defensive effort put forth in the early going of their 71-57 victory over Boston University last Sunday.

The Jayhawks forced 15 turnovers in the first half of that game.

Xavier will not make things easy on the visiting Jayhawks.

The Musketeers (9-4) have won four straight and have gone 3-0 since transfers Tudy Reed and April Phillips became eligible.

The two players were the only two bench players to score in Xavier’s 51-46 victory over Kentucky.

The last time the two teams met was in December of 2006 in Allen Fieldhouse.
