Shawnee County District Court confirmed this morning that a legal fight by downtown nightclub Last Call to regain its state liquor license has been put on indefinite hold.

Club owner Dennis Steffes told the Journal-World last week that he was not going to reopen the controversial hip-hop club at 729 N.H. after a shooting incident in early February. He also said since the club wouldn’t be reopening that he would not be continuing with the lawsuit alleging the Kansas Department of Revenue improperly refused to renew his drinking establishment license.

This morning the Shawnee County District court confirmed that District Court Judge David E. Bruns ordered an “indefinite stay” in the case.

Steffes hasn’t ruled out opening up another business in the 729 N.H. location, which he leases. But he has not said whether it would be another nightclub. State law would allow him to apply for a new liquor license at the location.
