Topeka ? Free State’s Mitch Moore placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle and seventh in the 100 butterfly, and Lawrence High’s Alex Boyer took eighth in the 100 freestyle and 10th in the 200 freestyle Saturday in the state swimming and diving meet.

Free State placed 18th with 44 points, and Lawrence High took 22nd with 27 points. Shawnee Mission East (294) won a close battle with Olathe East (292) for the team title.

Lawrence’s Skyler Criswell placed eighth in diving.

“We did really well, all things considered,” LHS coach Kent McDonald said. “We couldn’t ask for much more.”

Free State’s Nolan Frank placed 10th in the 100 backstroke, and the Firebirds’ 200 medley relay team of Frank, Tony Libeer, Moore and Kendall Harris placed 11th.

“It was a nice finish to a good season,” FSHS coach Annette McDonald said.
