University Bridge Club announces results of its Feb. 9 meeting. Hosts were Lois Liebert and Virginia Williams. Blue winners were Mary Joslin, first; Dale Kring, second; Alice Akin, third; Virginia Williams, fourth; and Paul Jordan, fifth. Pink winners were Darlene Schneider, first; Wanda Kring, second; Cora Kuepker, third; Cathy Waller, fourth; and Carolyn Harden, fifth.

¢The Northeast Kansas Unit of the American Contract Bridge League played host to a Sectional Bridge Tournament Feb. 8-10 at Lawrence Holidome. More than 200 players gathered from four states to participate in the three-day competition.

The tournament’s events ranged from three session Knock Out Team, stratified pairs games to bracketed and stratified Swiss Teams. Local bridge players organized and hosted the event under the leadership of John Hickey, Chris Lane and Shari Krentzel. The games were directed by officials from The American Contract Bridge League.

Forty-three local bridge players won master points in the three-day competition: John Hickey, Terry Tolar, Grant Sutton, Sidney Sutton, Marilyn Martin, Clarice Broz, Jerry Sloan, Eldon Herd, Craig Huneke, Mark Osborn, Lois Clark, Don Brennaman, Florine Creek, Barbara McCorkle, Paul Heitzman Jeremy Martin, Madelyn Jenks, Ed Howard, Mona Bell, Phyllis Brownlee, Donna Johnson, Gladys Baim, Adelaide Nyquist, Shari Krentzel, Nita Scales, Judy Bevan, Jeff Mermin, Virginia Seaver, Jim Zhang, Harry Shaffer, Chris Lane, Yvonne Hedges, Shirley Reese, James Gunn, David Piro, Chuck Hedges, Margarete Hartman, Barbara Figgins, Jean Otney, Emily Foster, Patricia Lechtenberg, Karen Zimmerer and Jean Khatib.

¢The Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club’s game Jan. 30 was directed by Chris Lane. The North-South players were led by Eldon Herd and Shari Krentzel at first in A and B, with Grant Sutton and Catherine Blumenfeld at second in A and B but first in C. Lester Dalton and Mary Fenlon placed third in A, while Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough were fourth. Betty Spalsbury and Margarete Hartman placed second in C.

The East-West players were led by David Piro and Paul Heitzman, with Virginia Seaver and Shirley Reese placing second. Klee Zaricky and Betty Collier along with Bebe Huxtable and Carol Smith tied third in A and first in B. Mona Bell and Nita Scales placed second in C.

The Friday Afternoon Bridge Club’s game Feb. 1 was directed by Virginia Seaver. The North-South players were led by Lester Dalton and Mary Fenlon at first in A and B, with Harry Shaffer and Lynn Hui placing second. Linda Randall and Linda Swain placed third in A and B, but first in C. Clyde Romer and Kent McCullough placed fourth. Jean Khatib and Pat Lechtenberg placed second in C.

The East-West players were led by David Piro and Paul Heitzman, with Ed Howard and Vince Russo placing second. Debbi Bettinger and Shari Krentzel placed third in A, but first in B and C. Catherine Blumenfeld and Gary Joyce placed fourth in A and second in B and C.

The Sunday Afternoon Bridge Club’s game Feb. 3 was directed by Chris Lane. Lois Clark and Craig Huneke led, with Ed Howard and Gary McDole placing second. Marilyn Martin and Jean Khatib placed third and Nita Scales and Chris Lane were fourth.

The Monday Evening Bridge Club’s game Feb. 4 was directed by Virginia Seaver. The North-South players were led by Clyde Romer and Steven Phelps, with Fred Lambert and James Masilamani placing second. Janice Hollowell and Mary Fenlon placed third.

The East-West players were led by Ed Howard and Vince Nordberg, followed by Lynn Hui and Jeane Landry. David Piro and Peter Petillo placed third.

The Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club’s game Feb. 6 was directed by Virginia Seaver. The North-South players were led by Ed Howard and John Fittell. Lois Clark and Mark Osborn placing second in A, but first in B. Ann Thompson and Jolene Andersen placed third in A, second in B and first in C.

The East-West players were led by Catherine Blumenfeld and Grant Sutton at first in A, B and C, with Eldon Herd and Virginia Seaver placing second. David Piro and Paul Heitzman were third in A, with Shari Krentzel and Yvonne Hedges placing second in B.

The Monday Evening Bridge Club’s game Feb. 11 was directed by Virginia Seaver. The North-South players were led by James Masilamani and Donna Johnson. Lois Jones and Jeffrey Nash placed second. Harry Shaffer and Grant Sutton placed third.

The East-West players were led by Lynn Hui and Adalaide Nyquist in A, B and C, with Virginia Seaver and Paul Heitzman placing second. Vince Nordberg and Jeremy Martin placed third in A and second in B and C.
