Chiefs release Welbourn

? The Kansas City Chiefs have released guard John Welbourn, in what figures to be the beginning of a postseason roster shakeup.

The Chiefs might have an offensive line next year that is almost entirely revamped. They lost their last nine games of 2007, finishing 4-12 in their worst season in 30 years.

The 31-year-old Welbourn, who was released Thursday, started every game last season at right guard. Right tackle Chris Terry, a part-time starter, was let go late in the year.

The Chiefs may also choose not to re-sign starting center Casey Wiegmann. Kyle Turley, a part-time starter at both guard and tackle, announced at the end of the season he was retiring from football. But even if he hadn’t, it’s unlikely the Chiefs would have kept him.
