KU hall of fame to induct 33

Several Olympians and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famers will be among those inducted Saturday into Kansas University’s Athletics Hall of Fame.

Fifteen teams and 33 individuals – including those who played on the 1952, ’56 and ’60 Olympic men’s basketball championship teams – will be inducted during KU’s 7 p.m. men’s basketball game against Baylor.

Olympic champs from 1952 to be inducted are: Charlie Hoag, Bill Hougland, John Keller, Dean Kelley, Bob Kenney and Bill Lienhard. Hougland is a 1956 champion and Al Kelley a ’60 champ.

Those to gain admittance as Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame inductees are: John Bunn, John McClendon, Ralph Miller, Adolph Rupp and Dean Smith.

At 11 a.m. that same day, to honor the achievements of the previous inductees and these storied individuals and teams, KU’s athletic department will unveil a new Hall of Fame exhibit in the Booth Family Hall of Athletics, complete with nearly 300 images of KU’s rich sports history.
