Caucus deadline extended at one location only

Kansas Democratic Party leaders have extended the deadline this evening by when caucus participants need to be in line at the Community Building, 1930 Harper St., of the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Anyone who wants to participate in the caucus there needs to be in line by 7:30 p.m. The deadline is 7 p.m. for all other sites, including the National Guard’s Metcalf Memorial Armory, 200 Iowa St., and Abe & Jake’s Landing, 8 E. Sixth St.

Party leaders said they decided to extend the deadline because they switched the site to the Fairgrounds from Liberty Hall on Friday due to space and parking concerns. The party will also sponsor a shuttle bus from Liberty Hall to the fairgrounds for anyone who still shows up there.

Participants who are not registered Democrats are also allowed to change their party affiliation at the door. Anyone who will be 18 by Election Day, Nov. 4, can register as a Democrat to participate. Doors for all sites open at 6 p.m.

Kansas Democrats can check which caucus site they need to attend at the Kansas Democratic Party’s Super Tuesday Central web site.
