Visiting clarinetist to teach class at KU

Michael Wayne, a clarinetist who has enjoyed success as an orchestral, chamber and solo musician throughout the U.S. and internationally, will present a master class Friday at Kansas University.

Wayne is currently the principal clarinet in the Kansas City Symphony and recently won the position of second clarinet in the Boston Symphony.

After finishing his studies at the University of Michigan in 2003, Wayne became a member of the Kansas City Symphony. As principal clarinet with the Kansas City Symphony, Wayne is in demand with recent engagements, including the Grand Teton and Colorado music festivals. For three years, Wayne was a member of the prestigious Verbier Festival Orchestra in Switzerland under the direction of James Levine. As an orchestral musician, Wayne has also performed with the New World Symphony, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Phoenix Symphony and as principal clarinet of the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra. In 2005 Michael gave the world premiere of the Michael Daugherty clarinet concerto “Brooklyn Bridge” at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Wayne’s master class will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Murphy Hall, Room 130. The event is free and open to the public.
