Cameron Scruggs, 18, Baldwin City, will receive the rank of Eagle Scout from Troop 65 at 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church of Baldwin City.

Scruggs began his scouting career in 1997 as a Tiger Cub in Cub Scout Pack 3057 in Lawrence. He rose to the rank of Webelo and received the Arrow of Light award in 2000. He has been a member of Troop 65 for seven years.

In Boy Scouts, Scruggs amassed 32 merit badges. His special awards include the 12-month Camping Award, 26-Mile Cycled, Advanced Rifle Shooting, World Conservation and others. He has earned numerous camping beads. He has also participated in many activities, including Scouting for Food, Scout Sunday and Polar Bear Swims.

In 2003, he became an Ordeal Member of the Order of the Arrow, an honors camping program. He became a Brotherhood member in 2006.

In addition to scouting, Scruggs has lettered in wrestling and debate. He played football for five years. He is a member of the Baldwin High School Band and is vice president of FCCLA. He was a member of the Baldwin High School Culinary Team, which won in management at the State Championship in Wichita in 2007. He attended Boys’ State in June 2007 and is on the honor roll.

For his Eagle project, Scruggs built a 560-foot fence at Oakwood Cemetery in Baldwin City; it took six months.

Scruggs will graduate from Baldwin High School in May. He plans to be a teacher. He is registered as an assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 65. He is the son of John and Lena Scruggs, Eudora.
