Adjutant general: State needs more troops

? The head of the Kansas National Guard says more large equipment and manpower are needed.

Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting appeared Thursday before the Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee.

He says the situation is getting better, but that the Guard is not where it needs to be.

One problem is that sophisticated radar equipment and large military vehicles haven’t been returned from Iraq.

The state’s stock of big trucks now numbers 30, down from 100. And the state is relying on two borrowed radar units for training because all five of its units are overseas.
